On Saturday, Oct. 15, we will be having our first hale building workshop as part of our project to restore the Hale o Ho’oponopono at Honaunau Bay.
We’ve been preparing the hale site, digging puka, sizing and trimming the ‘ohia posts, and gathering pohaku for the foundation during the past two weeks.
This first workshop will be for the Keoua community, a “soft launch” of our community hale building workshop series that will formally begin on Nov. 19. We’ll be working under the direction of the project’s certified hale builder, Walter Wong.
The series of eight community workshops will be publicized to the wider community and will run monthly from November through June 2017.
Our main task for this Saturday will be moving pohaku from a site on Napoʻopoʻo Road to our hale site at Honaunau Bay, and an overview of the hale building process including protocols and safety orientation.
The workshop will run from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and will include lunch.
Hope to see you there! For more info call Rafa at 238-4150.
